TRANSLATION This is one of those evenings where the audiences go back home with bright eyes, a smile on their face, and a quiet peaceful mind. Traditional Indian music, with extraordinary instruments and singer with his voice full of mystery create this impact. Culture without boundaries Sitting in semi-circle, legs folded, Indians and western musicians took their place; Tambura, mridangam and chitravina vs clarinet, oboe, flute, violin and guitar. TM Krishna‘s sings in a very unique style accompanied by the metallic vibrations of the tambura and of the sharp sound of the percussion, under the wide audience’s look, who even stand up to better appreciate the singer while he seems to go into a trance with the music . Then starts an eclectic festival, a series of musical tableaux’s where Catalans and south India interlace with each other. It sometimes sounds a little experimental; strange….But the audience’s curiosity has been aroused. The fast percussions of Satish Kumar gives way to the calmness and sweetness of Ferran Savall ‘s voice ; clarinet , oboe and flute spring back , before Andre Martin , the oboe player , starts with Krishna a dialogue , in which each of them reply to the other with big arms movements . And even if we regretted that the dancer Shantala Shivalingappa*(the previous day was the first small concert which included dance), the Satish Kumar‘s prowess ness trough in a fire of outstanding rhythmical onomatopoeias, sparks off the audience’s ovations. Before leaving, the artists could not resist singing el Cant dels Ocells (a popular Catalan song) a little clichéd but original. |
